The number of unemployed Americans does not necessarily match up to the number of people actively seeking employment on the job market. There are approximately 20% of unemployed citizens, but a whopping 71% of people in America are searching for jobs. This is because 51% of workers who are currently employed are either looking for a different job or open to finding something new.
One of the most popular ways to search for jobs in this day and age is by using the internet and employing the use of social media services. Google has stated that 30% of all Google searches are employment related. This adds up to about 300 million job searches on Google per month.
Employers and recruiters also actively take advantage of their internet opportunities by advertising online and seeking workers through various outlets. In fact, 94% of recruiters say that they use, or plan to use, social media as a means of recruiting employees. LinkedIn is the most popular choice for recruiters, as 89% of them hire their new workers on the website. Facebook reaches 26% recruiter hires, and Twitter comes in last at only 15%. More and more employers are flocking to social media to seek new employees since employers who use social media state that there is a 49% improvement in the quality of potential new hires on the internet than they see when only using traditional recruiting techniques offline.
