If you are a parent, you understand the difficulty in communicating with your teenager. It’s like the speak another language and there are culture barriers. However, rest assured that this time is temporary. Now, see how difficult it is and you live with them? Imagine their poor school. Schools are desperately trying to find different ways to reach out and communicate with teenagers. Well, good schools are at least. If you are looking for a good high school to send your child to, then here are a few things that you can look for.
School LED Signs
School LED signs might sound trivial in the grand scheme of things but they are actually a lot more helpful than you might think. Having outdoor school signs will eliminate you having to bug your teenager to give you any announcement letters they may or may not have gotten in school. This is just one less argument. School LED signs will also help to inform of things that you child may not think to tell you about, whether they assume you will not be interested or simply don’t know themselves. Whatever the case, school LED signs and outdoor signs for schools can help you to stay informed and involved in the things that you need to be, without fighting with your teenager over it.
Small Class Sizes
This is more student focused than the school marquees. Having a smaller class will allow the teacher to take time to get to know each and every student. They’ll be able to see the strengths and weaknesses of your child and help them to overcome obstacles and barriers to their learning. Quiet and well behaved kids tend to get overlooked in a bigger class, simply because the teacher has to use all their time correctly the badly behaved ones. Smaller classes always contribute to better student friendships. It’s also easier to concentrate because the classroom isn’t so noisy and people tend to be a little better behaved anyway because the teacher is better able to maintain control.
High College Rates
IF you are looking into a good school, they will be very proud to share how many of their students go on to be accept at high ranking colleges. Drop outs and non college goers should be at a minimum, if they exist at all. If most of the kids that have gone to the particular school you are looking at, go on to some sort of college or trade school, that’s a good sign that the school not only is following a good curriculum and rule base, but they also are encouraging the children to follow their dreams and find out what they want from life and really go after it. That’s something that is sadly missing in our day and age. Teenagers could be 16 and 17 and still not know what they want to be when they grow up.
Parental Involvement
A good high school, with nothing to hide, will encourage parental involvement. While your teen may not be excited about this, it’s a very good sign. You should be highly involved with your children’s education and a school that allows you to be hands on is a great way to connect with your teenager. While showing up unannounced at lunch time may not be a good idea if you don’t want to embarrass your son or daughter; requiring parental sign on when choosing electives and things like that is a great way to make sure your son or daughter is getting the education that they need. Schools that encourage parental involvement are also usually open to having a good relationship with the parents so that they can discuss the child and how they are doing. This is not to say that you need to know the ins and outs or your child’s social life but academically, it’s a great way to stay on top of things.
Those frustrating teen years will be over soon and your child will be out on their own making a living for themselves and appreciating everything you did for them. Don’t bow out early and leave them to themselves before they’re ready.
