Of all the different pieces of equipment that commercial fire protection services recommend all non-residential structures and facilities have, it’s fire extinguishers that can effectively eliminate blazes quickly, and safely. Here’s why fire protection companies recommend them so heavily.
Fire Extinguishers Eliminated Virtually Ever Fire in One Study. – According to a survey from the National Federation of Fire Equipment Distributors (NEFD), portable fire extinguishers were able to successfully put out 12,505 of the 13,221 fire incidents reported. That’s a staggering 95% — virtually all of them.
Fire Extinguishers Are Easy to Use. – Another reason why these pieces of fire protection equipment are so effective is because they’re easy to use. In one study, almost every participant (98%) was able to successfully use an extinguisher by pulling the pin, squeezing the trigger, and discharging it without any training. Even better, 100% of all study participants correctly pulled the pin, squeezed the trigger, and discharged the extinguisher after just a few minutes of training.
Fire Extinguishers Come in Different Types. – Lastly, fire extinguishers are so effective because they’re also so diversified. There are a ton of different fire extinguishers, and each one is designed to fight a specific type of fire. Type A is used for ordinary combustibles such as cloth, wood, rubber and many plastics. Type B is used for flammable liquid fires such as oil, gasoline, or paints. Type C is used for electrical fires. Lastly, Type D is used used for fires caused by such metals as magnesium, titanium, and sodium.
Fire extinguishers are quite possibly the most effective piece of fire protection equipment you can have. They’re work incredibly well. They’re beyond easy to use. And they come in a variety of different types, so there’s one for whatever potential danger you may face. If you have any questions about them, feel free to share in the comments.
