Rigid PCBs and Insulating Substrates
The main insulating substrate that is used to produce most rigid PCBs is FR-4 glass epoxy. During this process, a thin layer of copper foil is laminated to either 1 or both sides of the FR-4 panel. The circuity interconnections are then etched into these copper layers. This resulting product is a printed circuit board. When complex circuits are needed, these are produced in multiple layers.
