There are a lot of different ways that advertisers try to appeal to would be customers. There’s an entire industry that has grown around even just local advertising, let alone the macro national and international advertising companies that have to try to appeal to that large of an audience. Even with all the money, time, and effort poured into advertising, though, there are still some common advertising techniques that crop up between ads. Here are three techniques that advertisers commonly take advantage of in their work:
1. Association
The most effective ads are the ones that stick with you after the ad has ended. When there is an ad jingle that is stuck in your head from for any amount of time, you know that advertiser has done his job to support the product with video advertising techniques. Association is when a product is, as the name would suggest, associated with something else. This can mean a jingle, a time of the year, or even a famous person. This includes any sort of endorsements you may see in advertising. These digital advertising ideas are some of the most relevant tenets of advertising because they are what allow the other elements to function!
2. Education
Advertising companies don’t put all their time into keeping ads stuck in your head (or at least not all of them do). Sometimes they just want to focus on the content! Education or claims is an advertising technique designed to tell the consumer what the product does which is an important part of convincing someone to purchase it. These claims aren’t always accurate though. At their heart, they are little more than a statement of “this product is in this category of products and it is the best around!”
3. Repetition
When all is said and done, though, a lot of advertising techniques can be boiled down to simple repetition. Ads try to repeat the product or brand name as much as possible in order to make it stick in your mind. Even in print, repetition can make the ads come higher in search engine results.
